Maraza furious over an alledged racial profilling incident at Pick n Pay
Rapper Maraza is spitting fire over an
alleged racial profiling incident at a Pick n
Pay store where he was apparently
followed and stopped by security to
“verify” his purchase.
The musician told TshisaLIVE he was
stopped by security after buying groceries
worth over R8,000 and was asked if they
could check his purchase.
Maraza claimed that he was given no
explanation over being questioned and felt
like a “criminal”.
“I believe that they were tracking me.
There were a number of times when
security came to me to tell me they were
closing and asked why I was doing so
much shopping just before closing time. I
was treated like a criminal. This was not
right,” he said.
Maraza added that he was told that he
could not leave while other customers
walked out with trolleys full of groceries.
“People were staring at me like I had done
something wrong. They did not say I was
a criminal but they said I cannot leave
until my purchase has been verified. This
while a number of white people were
allowed to leave with trolleys full of
goods,” he explained.
The rapper believes that he was
discriminated against because of his way
of dressing and colour of his skin.
“I was discriminated against because my
pants were saggy and I was black and
spending so much money. I am not
fighting a race issue. I am fighting a
social profiling issue,” he said.
Speaking on social media he called the
incident one of the “most common forms
of systematic racism” and said that he
was later released with no further
explanation.
In a statement issued to TshisaLIVE
Pick
n Pay apologised for the incident and
denied that Maraza was profiled. Instead
the supermarket chain blamed the
incident on problematic card transactions
at the store.
“We apologise for any inconvenience
experienced by Maraza and have tried to
contact him directly. Our Pick n Pay
Killarney branch has experienced a
number of problematic card transactions,
particularly at closing time. The store put
random checks in place, and this was one
of them. Customers were not profiled and
the security officer on duty did not ask to
check Maraza’s groceries. Only the card
transaction itself was verified,” said Pick
n Pay spokesperson Tamra Veley.
However, Maraza told TshisaLIVE that he
was still waiting for a personal apology
from Pick n Pay and was not sure he
would accept it unless it was sincere.
“My feeling towards Pick n Pay still
hasn’t changed. They have not contacted
me. I don’t want them to apologize
through the media. I want them to reach
out to me and speak to me personally
about the incident,” he added.
AKA parts ways with Vth Season
After six months since announcing his
plan to part ways with his record label and
management company Vth Season‚ AKA
has announced that all forms of their
business relationship is over.
In December last AKA shocked fans when
he announced that he was leaving Vth
Season and would be starting his own
company‚ Beam Group.
Over the past few months AKA’s music
was still released under the Vth Season
record label‚ however as of June 1‚ they
have “mutually parted ways“.
“I have the utmost respect for the Vth
Season team. Together‚ we created magic.
I have learnt a lot from the music industry
and it’s time for me to start building my
own legacy and become South Africa’s
first Music Mogul‚” AKA said in a
statement.
The rapper described the journey of
establishing his own company as
challenging yet rewarding.
“The process of establishing BEAM from
scratch has not been easy‚ but has been
liberating as I have a great business team
to lean on. Thus BEAM’s focus is not just
music‚ as my ultimate aim is to be a
multi-investor‚ with success in different
industries‚” he added.

Ex Teargas Member Ntukza goes head to Head with AKA on twitter
Just Earlier South African Rapper AKA was being questioned by a stan concerning his kempton park gig .
according to the stan, he was booked to perform, instead of AKA performing , he sat in his Car for a while , waiting for the place to be packed however, AKA left the hosting venue to watch score instead .
In an open tweet AKA responded
"There wasn't enough people for me to
perform. 500 minimum. It's in my
contract. "
Meaning that he can only perform for a crowd starting at 500 upwards..
He says that they (The BeamGroup ) negotiated with the organizer to come
back to the event after their show at
Nasrec if the gig filled up. He says the never got
the call.
Ntukza felt out of sight to defend the organizers saying that the show was sold out .
AKA " The Social Media Star" .warned Ntukza saying "
Nothing will be solved on twitter. I never
spoke your name once. I respect you
enough not to do that. Let's not do this."

Clumsy feat Maraza - Haiyo Audio and Video
Mr Moeketsi Maesela a.k.a “Clumsy” is a
star on the rise, who is collaborating with
the already established hip hop artist
MarazA on a new single titled Haiyo.
In case you don’t know him yet, Clumsy is
a recording artist and songwriter, taking
from his influences Travis Scott, Tory
Lanes, KO & Jay Z and using them to
shape a new style.
Growing up in Klipfontein View in
Midrand, it was in his teens when he
started making beats and at a later stage
started recording his own music.
Even though he’s still young, he has an
unusually strong command of his music
and has a fully-formed musical identity.
He has collaborated with Costa Titch &
Phantom_steeze on a trendy hit single
“Dablikeme” which created a buzz on
social media.
Currently he has busy with an EP & a few
music videos which will be dropping soon,
one of them being of Haiyo where he
