Hands off 90 % local content
Wololo hitmaker BabesWodumo
took to her social media to urge
the public to join her in an effort
to overturn the SABC board’s
decision to remove the 90 % local
content quota.
The musician has gone as far as to
call it “a direct assault and insult to
South African artistry” and says the
SABC’s decision “affects everyone.”
She says that as a local artist, she
does not support the SABC
“overloading” local airways with
international content.
“As South African entertainers in
various sectors, we want to make it
clear that we do not want to be
made part and parcel of internal
politics at the SABC and we do not
support the overloading of Western
music/soapies/movies/TV shows and
more on our media platforms.”
The star added that someone in a
leadership position should make
better judgment calls and should not
leave the people that they represent
to “starve.”
“Which leader in his rightful mind
would favour an American artist to
take all the money and leave his
own people that he/she represents to
starve. This makes absolutely no
sense.”
She called on the SABC to find
“alternative solutions to their
problems” without putting local
artists at risk.
“The SABC needs to sit down and
find alternative solutions to their
problems without compromising us.
If we do not get support and airplay
in our own country, where else are
we expected to get support from?
The March starts tomorrow @ 9 Am
In KZN
